Still going over Richard's list. Here's a funny result! On ngc 2215, an open
in Monoceros, my notes say, "A Navarrete, just SW of beta Mon." An
independent judgment. That is in fact my own slang term for nondescript open
clusters.
You better go back to ngc 2324, though, also in Monoceros: "Dense packed
oval south of a pretty, wide double. Dynamite in 10mm. Easy 100 stars in the
packed carpet. ca 12’ long." This is in DeepMap for a reason. Better than
"Boring!"
Incidentally, there are two other OC's I have logged as Navarretes, 2483 in
Puppis and 2343 in Monoceros. Plenty of OC's in Monoceros, where we're
looking right along our arm of the galaxy. Thing is, 2343 is also on
DeepMap. So beauty looks to be in the eye of the beholder. But Richard, what
did you think of 2343? That was only me calling it by your designation.
Most of those OC's I haven't seen, by virtue of not having done the Herschel
400 list. As noted before, it's an armchair list compiled by numbers, not by
observing notes. However, one cute parallel was on ngc 4660, a Virgo galaxy
that Richard described as, "Puny, very small. Why?" I called it a "Tight
little island SE of M60."
Allabest,
Jamie
