I hasten to point out that having good vision is not a prerequisite for amateur observing.
Indeed I recently gave a lecture/demonstration of observational astronomy to a group of folks, many of whom are legally blind, and with the right equipment they all were able to see the items I was pointing out. It having never crossed their minds that they could do astronomy as a hobby, I know that several found my presentation inspiring and empowering.
