I'm Bob Ayers and I own a TAC-listed site at Willow Springs, NE of
Pinnacles, SE of Hollister, off highway J-1. It is at the 3000-foot
level near the top of the Diablo Range.
Compared with Dr Hoglan's site, mine is somewhat closer to Monterey,
considerably higher (3000' vs 1300'), and often in the coastal laminar
airflow. Overhead SQM readings are similar. In recent years, my
site has been a bit more cloudy, due to orographic clouds on the
Diablo Range. Both sites have excellent southern horizons. My site
has the (visual) advantage of no visible light sources from dwellings
or cars. You can read more about it at
www.RobertMartinAyers.org/willow-springs.
Unlike Dr Hoglan's site, mine is primitive. Lee notes that he has
"most of the modern conveniences". My astro-site has none of them :-O
I have two twenty-foot shipping containers at the site: that's it.
I visit my astro-site several times around every new moon if the
weather is cooperating. If you would like to learn more or arrange a
visit, contact me.
