Hi All,
I'm Dr. Hoglan, my friend and I own the DARC observatory. It is 20 acres in a beautiful dark site. We have most of the modern conveniences, like bathroom, kitchen, satellite internet, heat, A/C. Everybody from rookies to stargeezers are welcome. It is in open range south of Hollister. We go there just about every dark Saturday night. Anyway, call or email me for details. Lee

Hi Sherman,
This is my week to be list admin and I was they guy who set you up this morning.

Check out our TAC list of sites: http://observers.org/sites/

I agree that Fremont Peak is a real good high site closer to you than most sites. We (in general) go to the South West parking lot (just on the North side of the peak itself).

Lot of people like Bonny Doon Airport which TACos have been extended an open invite to join along with the Santa Cruz club.
The Santa Cruz Astronomy Club is very active ( http://astronomy.santa-cruz.ca.us/ ) and it is the site they have used for years. They post when the site will be available which is generally 2 weeks nearest the new moon. Great group of guys too. SCAC also has a few other sites they like and are posted on above web site.

For a lot longer trip there are other sites that we (TACo's get invited to like D.A.R.C) so watch for announcements on the TAC email list. That is an extremely dark site and a lot of peole love it. It is privately owned. Again, watch for the generous offers posted on TAC for open nights (usually Saturdays near new moon).

Other favorites of TACos are farther north like Henry Coe overflow lot. You will see a lot of people going there.

There is hope that we may get access to an amazing site south of Monterey way up high above JP Big Sir but that is only in the works and not a sure thing at all at this point. You can watch for posts if that becomes available by invite to the TAC site.

Clear Skies,
Mark

Hi there everyone,

I am new to the area and just moved from Hawaii to Monterey. I will only be
taying here for a short while, 15 months to be exact, but want to make the
ost of my time here. I have been trying to find dark sites that are
elatively close to Monterey. I recently used Pinnacles National Park, but
t is quite a ways (~90 minutes) from where I live.

I also saw that Garland Ranch Park was listed, but found out (by driving
here today) that it is basically a parking lot adjacent to the main
oad.which I assume has a lot of traffic in the evening. Can anyone suggest
site that is within 45 minute driving distance from Monterey, where one
an escape the fog (I have a permanent wood pier in my backyard, that has
een little use due to fog) and the light J?

Thanks in advance!

Sherman
