Well maybe I missed it in the first message. But whole thread boils down to
A) Yes, observing whole new *classes* of objects may require a permanently mounted OWL amateur scope. That's a tough requirement to satisfy. I mean that's a game ender. Once you've observed a few QSO's or lensed thingy or two, you need a different class of telescope (and maybe different wavelengths to boot).
B) Portability while an 'opinion' is not 'generally' defined as 'Can I sit at it?'. If it were, no one would be observing with a dob over 12.5 inches (give or take an few inches).
C) A big scope with a Naysmth (sp?) focus that was portable would be cool, but probably not a great business plan.
D) Never argue with Jay :D ;)
