Jay knows his observing goals and matches his equipment with them.
That's what it boils down to and I know, even though he has some top
notch gear, he's saved a wad of cash as a result.
I've seen too many people who have no idea what their goals are and
are constantly stuck in a never ending buy/sell cycle of equipment.
(you can count me in that group ;))
Right now, I've settled in with three very nice smaller telescopes
that I enjoy using. I still have my C14, but it's in a trunk and may
not see use for some time. But I'm keeping it.... just in case I
change my mind again!
Who knows, I might build another large scope for myself some day. But
to be honest, I don't miss the hassle of a large scope set up in any
way. It helps that my observatory is usually ready to go at a
moment's notice.
