I have used a variety of instruments for quick-look observing,
and find myself preferring small, compact refractors on grounds
of light weight and ease of moving around. Having the assembled
telescope and tripod be a one-hand carry seems to make a good
deal of difference in how often I take it out. I have tried a
small Maksutov -- an Orion 127 -- but the cool-down time was
long enough to be bothersome: "Quick look" usually means not
only fast setup but also a short session.
