IDA is a good thing for us but it may be unclear how turning off lights
in large buildings reduces the threat of nighttime collisions with
buildings for birds.
Because some birds use moon and so on to navigate it would lower the
number of birds that endlessly circle a lit building till they run out
of energy and get exhausted (That I had heard in the past). So I
don't think it is a function of them seeing the building but rather it
is to avoid them getting confused which then leads to problems.
On the lighter side of things I was having some difficulty locating the
horsehead nebula a few hours ago outside so I decided to use my 6" solar
filter for my recent 120mm Orion ST scope instead and am having more
luck with solar observing ... ;-)
