The Repeater

OK , this is mostly off topic, but Olivia Judson's column in the New
York Times at least STARTS OFF with some astro content:

"Here’s an evolutionist’s dream: 10,000 planet Earths, starting from
the same point at the same time, and left to their own devices for
four and a half billion years. What would happen? Could you go on
safari from one planet to the next seeing an endless procession of
wildly different organisms? Or would many of the planets be home to
life forms that are broadly similar?"

The rest of her column quickly comes down to earth, using lots of
examples near and dear to my own heart.

Lakes aren't planets, but I think Judson writes well and knows how to
grab an audience when presenting science to the public.

We have had a lot of fun in lab today watching the range of comments
that have come into the NYT!
