I do love film still. In my humble opinion, it has its points of superiority over CCD imaging;
1. It is a cheaper,
2. Requires less gear in the field
3. Requires less electrical power
4. Most importantly, it has a 1" x 1.5" "chip"
The FSQ is capable of producing a flat field across a much broader flat field than any CCD chip can cover. I may even go to a 6x7 pentax to more fully use the scope's capablity.
Once I improve my guiding a little more, the images will be sharper. The e-finder is about a 100mm FL scope, so during a very long exposure minor errors can kick in that slightly wash out the most subtle of details. Once I switch to a guide scope things will improve even more.
I'm not knocking DSLRs or CCD's, they both have great advantages over film and I may get one myself, but they are too small of a FOV in my opinion.
