Hello,

Maybe I don't have the right of opinion since I'm not a citizen, but on the
other hand I'm paying taxes like anybody else, so at least I can ask questions.
What I don't understand is is it really that expensive to keep a park open?
What will happen if, let's consider an extreme case, there's no maintenance
whatsoever? I'm not talking about camp sites - just the trails and open spaces
- what will happen if those are left unmaintained?

I'm talking from experience - there's a park here in Bulgaria - the Vitosha
mountain. Since the early 1990-s the park is not maintained at all. There are
no rangers, nothing. There are couple of hotels that take care of the car roads
to them, but nobody takes any care about the rest of the mountain, except hikers
themselves. Yes, there are places where the trails have deep ruts from running
watter; so what?! Couple of ski areas are in ruins - all the better! But the
nature part is thriving and hiking is absolutely great! The place is clean and
as safe as a mountain can be. Yes, there are people that throw thrash, but
there are people that pick up a bottle or two on the way too. Why this can't
work for our parks?

Regards,

- Alex
