Hi Joe,
Using Google Earth, it appears there are two roads that go up Panoche
Mountain, both top out at approximately 2,000 feet elevation. These are
certainly dirt roads which would be very difficult in the rainy season,
and long drives at best other times of the year, from what I can
determine with Google Earth. I suspect that for that amount of driving
time and difficulty, some of the TAC-SAC sites and Plettstone would be
just a bit further time-wise, much easier to get to, as dark or darker,
and have the same or higher elevations. Although they may have brighter
skies, Henry Coe and Fremont Peak State Parks are also higher elevations
and much closer.
If you try it though, it would be interesting to read a report.
