I enjoyed reading Jamie's posting about being at the Peak on Saturday.
His hike with the ranger brought back some fond memories for me, as he
mentioned the name of the trail they took as "Carmen's Trail"....
I went to the state web-site for Fremont Peak and looked at a map of the
park. Sure enough, in the official state literature on the place there
are two trails with people's names.
Years ago, my daughter Mimi spent some time with Ranger Rick Morales'
daughter, the two had become friends. From August 2007:
"I began to talk about Fremont Peak under Ranger Rick Morales'
administration. How our kids grew up, up there. Mimi with Rick's
daughter Carmen, up in the tree house (that is now gone), or inside
watching TV or playing games, safely, happily...."
Great times, and what better place for my daughter, up at the Peak,
doing astronomy with dad, and friends with the ranger's daughter (and a
great ranger to boot!).
So, I don't think it is just coincidence that the trail at Fremont Peak
is named Carmen's Trail. Surely, Ranger Rick had something to do with
that! And, as I recall, Carmen had a younger brother... I haven't
thought about him for years.... but, based on the trails at the Peak, I
bet his name is Tony....
