Nothing hurts and gets more attention from a politician than bad publicity. We would be better served if a letter was written to the editors of local newspapers, or a combination of that and one NPR's morning perspectives (aka the morning rant).

It also will allow them to see what kind of resource they have without any $
out of their budgets...who wouldn't love to have someone or some group meet
public outreach requirements for them - they get the credit, the budget and
we get quality time under the stars in a safe environment.
