I suggest this information be added to the Observing Sites page on
TAC. There are many people that have become accustomed over the years to
going to the Peak during the winter months. Any way we can provide
information about the Peak's current use status will help people.

Not to be one to say "I told you so"... so I won't ;-)
But here, have some
fun: http://observers.org/tac.mailing.list/2004/Jan/0263.html
Just keep this in mind... things change. Sometime incrementally, sometimes
in "steps" to test the waters before taking the next "step".
There was a time not too long ago that a rangerette seemed determined to
not let amateur astronomers have a "Pass" to the park. Such silliness as
"you can do astronomy at the park, but only during park hours (8 a.m. until
sunset), or in designated campsites" was the letter of the law. It took
some more politically savvy thinking at district to put an administrative
order in place to allow us use. But pay attention, the "day use only"
mindset was certainly displayed, and what happened before can happen
again. The current status is a "step" in that direction.
Me? I think I'll start looking seriously at BLM observing sites, where
redundant insurance and small thinking and "I've got mine, so who cares"
attitudes are not encountered.
