(ok, now we are gradually edging off-topic.)
My day job has a lot to do with this stuff. 1-meter per pixel resolution is
the standard nowadays for satellite imagery, commercially available for land
use planning, mapping, simulation, etc etc. See for example
http://www.spaceimaging.com/ , one of several vendors for public use.
Needless to say there are other sources and resolutions as well. So I'm not
surprised to see a 1m/pixel image in general, but it is cool to see one from
Mars! I had no idea the MGS had imaging capability of this caliber.
