I have indeed seen residue from this mylar bubble wrap stuff.
specifically the stuff from OSH.
If it rubs against something, the mylar comes off on that
something, and sticks to that something. It is removable
with a little elbow grease and water.
When I first was using it, no problem. Then I picked up
another roll and the problems started.
On finished wood there would be a dark gray "film" where
the mylar came in contact with it (usually on the corners
of the mirror box. On the mount legs there
would be gray "dust" where the mylar contacted it. Also, it
tends to scratch car paint very finely.
Note that the mylar insulation stuff has to be "rubbing"
against the other surface... e.g. like if there is a little breeze.
I use this to protect the kydex from the sun, but I now
also keep a towel (or blanket) between the mylar bubble
stuff and the telescope.
Otoh, the home depot stuff has white plastic on the "inside".
However, last I looked they no longer stocked it.
(maybe they moved it, or maybe my store is lame... ymmv)
