Several alternatives...
1) Astrosystem scope cover (not shiny, breathable)
2) Desert storm cover
3) Orchard Supply Hardware "bubble" insulation (can leave mylar residue, no longer recommended)

Cold at night. This is the desert, essentially.

semi hot during the day -- this is why its in october. Summer is
unbearable -- e.g. when I go in the summer I try to get on the
road before the sun gets too high.

It hasnt been windy there at night. Nor much during the
day.. its always quite calm, but I'd be prepared. Likewise
with dew.

Very canopy friendly. Bring stakes (and hammer).
