Hi gang,
Many of you have heard that I have been planning on a return to Lake Sonoma
during this month. I have managed to secure a group site in the campground
with plenty of area to camp and set up. I was not able to get group site E
as the Santa Rosa College Astronomy Club booked it. The site has shade
shelters and a paved parking lot and we would be able to set up in the
parking lot on the pavement with plenty of parking left over. I am
reserving this site and offering an open invitation to anyone who would like
to attend. The cost to rent the site for one night is $40 and I am not
requiring contributions, but if anyone would like to chip in it wouldn’t be
turned down. ;-)
On my previous visit, I found the sky to be almost as dark as Shingletown
and the seeing was excellent. The only thing is the horizon is a little
restricted to the east but I found it to be as open as Coyote to use an
example. According to Stacy-Jo there was a small light dome towards Santa
Rosa but it didn’t affect me. Sleeping arrangements are quite simple the
last time I put my cot under one of the shade shelters on the west side and
was able to sleep in until 10am. There is also plenty of room to pitch a
tent if you feel so inclined. I am hoping to see many of my observing
buddies there and have a great time. There would be no need to check in or
any other payment to enter the park; it is covered under the group site
rental fee. The one thing you must bring is your own potable water. There
are porta-potties on site within a short walk. Please feel free to chime in
with any suggestions, I have already booked the site and will be sending the
check tomorrow. (No, I won’t forget you Jaime!)
Dark & clear skies!
