I've just looked under the rubber friction ring in my DX-2...indeed the
set screw is underneath it...so you're set...

Mine has a set screw (damned thing kept falling off).
The later versions of this focuser have the rubber friction ring on the
knob. I'll bet the set screw is under the rubber ring.
