This reminds me of the debate over legislating morality. I have heard of
humanity and empathy; and subscribe to both (probably to my detriment).
However, it's not government's job to be either human or empathetic. Every
time it attempts to do so, someone gets hurt. Individuals should vote their
conscience, but government should stick to their most narrowly defined
mandates.

For humanity and empathy, go to services on Saturday or Church on Sunday; or
spend a night under the stars with a nice, smart, responsible group of
people.
