I can probably help, but can't figure how to get your email address to reply off list.
Mine is mbracewell AT akiva.com

Subject: [TAC] OT - Someone know woodworking?
OT.
Some of you know my son Ben.
He was doing some simple sanding for refinishing a table, as a first project in woodworking gift. Trying to get into wood / metal so he can work on telescope design more seriously (plus robotics).
He went too deep with the sander in a spellbound moment - right through the cherry veneer. Oops. About 8inches by 3inches.
Anyone know some woodworking techniques to repair the veneer with new cherry veneer he bought at Mintons? Looks like it needs something like a router to make it level for replacement. My expertise only goes to sanding/staining - not a repair like this.
He said he'd like to fix it himself and make it OK for Christmas.
If you've got some ideas, please reply to me off list. :-)
Regards,
Lynne.
