a) good move, Goddess. Note how Tips and I are on the same page
today, pretty cosmic!
b) Gortatowsky, glad you came in with how a certain TACo does fine
with an 11. Just in time, buddy.
c) a story. Liam and I were rolling up the hill on a summer evening
at Mt Lassen, heading from taking showers at Manzanita up to Bumpass
(where the TACos were _supposed_ to be that night). We passed
Devastated Area, where the parking lot was not only jam-packed with
cars but also bristling with telescopes. "Look," said Liam, "they all
have the same scope." He was right, a lot full of 18" Obsessions.
d) as the Animal hissef mentioned last week on amastro, 10 and 11
inch scopes are not small, they're medium-sized. Yes, there is a
medium size on this scale. But don't expect the boys to tell you
that. No, you aren't a serious observer unless you're packing at
least 18 inches. And check out TAC-SAC, Size Queen City, where you
hafta be into the 20's to get into contention.
That's as far as I can go in terms of the psychosocial aspect of
this, on a family-oriented list. For folks who are watching the
banter while thinking about getting telescopes, Jeff G. is right, I'm
going into my 7th year of amazing views with an 11" scope. Felix and
I have romped around the Coma and Hercules Clusters, both over a
quarter of a billion lightyears from here. Capable optics.
Plus, being not of the male gender, Jane, you don't hafta worry about
competing here at all <g>!
