H-alpha sources seem nearly impossible without the IR modification.

So it seems that the current 10D iteration is about the same as what one
can do with
film, but with a quicker turnaround (no need to develop), and _alot_
less telescope time. I suspect film can go a bit deeper, but the
current
crop of decent astro CCDs do seem to exceed the fidelity of film
(at least my recent experiences with film).

Btw Phil, isnt your 300D up for sale on amart? whats up with that?
