Great report, Dick
I've had this distant quasar on my list since last year but forgot to
look for it this spring/summer, so I'm glad to hear that it's so
intrinsically bright though wish I was at LS with you guys.
Back in 1992, HS 1946+7658 in Draco was called the "most luminous known
QSR", but your object must have a brighter absolute magnitude. I have
QSO 1425+606 listed in my database as "SBS 1425+606" in Ursa Major (not
Draco), though I can't tell you what or who the SBS refers to. When I
made a finder chart I noticed there is a mag 14.5 GSC "star" (GSC
4172-1616) within roughly 20 arcseconds of the position I have for the
quasar. I wonder if these are the same object?? Was there a brighter
star close by?
