Nature of Toys?

I was just thinking (what a concept!) about Richard Crisps posting about how
he likes to do his imaging at remote sites with the availability of having a
generator, with being able to enjoy music, unshielded laptop, and white light
to do trouble-shooting. Then I was thinking about how I just like to be
outside to enjoy nature, and when I'm enjoying the night sky I want it dark and
quiet. Perhaps this is two sides of the same coin. It got me to wondering what
it is that draws people to this hobby - is it the nature aspect, or all the
cool toys?

There has got to be some of both of that in all of us, but what dominates in
you?

With me, it's the wonder of nature and the beauty of it all, whether it's
daytime hiking or nighttime star-gazing. The toys are cool, but I've spent many
happy hours under the stars with nothing more than my near-sighted/astigmatic
eyes.
