Laser pointers should be outlawed as finders. Pure and simple.
Yes, its annoying.
But the most important point is that its DANGEROUS.
All the comments I've read seem to assume that the laser pointers are
pointed up. Can you imagine a line of telescopes at Shingletown or wherever
pointed at objects in Sagittarius? A person walking by could be zapped in
the eyes by each of dozens of scopes. If you don't think its dangerous, then
turn one on your own eye and measure the effect. Nuff said.
