A caution about the Caldwell objects. This list has gained some fame since
Sky and Telescope is pushing it. Many of the objects are dim and several
are just down right not very interesting.
Here are some other lists you might consider.

Needless to say there bazillion such lists. I sure everyone has his
favorites. As Michelle says you can enjoy many of these objects more from a
darker place. Even a one hour drive will get you to some of the local parks
that are significantly darker.

Subject: [TAC] New Subscriber
Hello,
I am a new subscriber to TAC. I am a member of SJAA but have not been very
active lately because of time constraints. I am interested in deep sky
objects - Messier and Caldwell objects and cosmology in general. I also
enjoy viewing the planets and the moon and sharing the skies with my
grandchildren, other family members and friends. Most of my viewing is done
from my backyard in south San Jose. I am looking forward to sharing
information, ideas, etc. with other members.
