Also, keep in mind that "bad seeing" can be localized.
E.g. if the door to the Lick 36" refractor dome is open, the seeing
is really really bad as a result of the warm air rushing in
and up the dome slot.
I've also seen bad seeing when observing over the house, or
if the back door is open. So if you're in the backyard looking
at the planets to the west and neighbor is cooking a turkey
you might be looking though his heat plume.
In fact, mojane mentioned that the seeing went bad when "someone"
was standing under the refractor objective.
