Albert Highe was studying the Birthday Cluster, Abell 426 in Perseus,
on his 50th birthday. Now that's celebrating.
Doug Davis was there, one of the best observers in the state and
absent from these parts a couple of years, after moving to Hercules,
up by Carquinez Strait. Then we were standing around schmoozing, and
Everitt goes, "Man, is that Blanchard over there?" Jeff had made it
Thurs-Sun, having been back from river rafting on the Colorado a
total of 10 days, his first time at CalStar.
Then Elena Danaila and Craig Scull showed up with the Rocket, their
D&G 8", after months and months of work-related astro-hibernation.
With Gortatowsky and the Shahs holding down the southern end of the
thread, and Her Worship and The Dude the northern end, it was
officially the California Star Party. Still, Czerwinski and
Neuschafer and Canis Australis should know they were missed out loud
on site, along with ZZ and Ster.
It was huge fun. Thanks again to the organizers, and to Koop the
raffle-wallah for the ronchi tester. Felix is putting on no end of
airs.
Excited OR to follow.
