The first couple of times I took that route, I felt the same way. But as
I got to know it better, and learned where to slow down A LOT and where I
could drift, etc., I really became aware of the beauty of that drive. It
was quite familiar, and each landmark helped me measure the remaining
time, breaking it up and helping it pass quickly- the grade up from the
flatlands, the residential section, the split in the road, the bridge
over the upper lake, the picnic areas along the lake, the old dilapidated
farm, the switchbacks, the driveway at the vertex of the last switchback,
topping the ridgecrest, the long sweeping drop to the ranch, the tight
curvy section (where my daughter and I saw a couple of tarantulae), the
telephone poles, the cattle guard, the guard rail visible from well
below, and finally the overflow lot. Did I miss anything? <g>

I miss that drive and my TAC buddies, wish I could be there with you all
tonight.

Cheers,
Paul Sterngold
