These things seem to be especially popular in the East Bay recently.
Those Halloween stores and car dealerships often light them up, and last
night I saw four of them beaming out the parking lot of Ricky's Sports Bar
near Bayfair Mall, where a superbowl party tent had been erected. These
may have been the ones you saw - I saw them easily and nearly overhead
from a point 1.5 miles north of the spot.
For people trying to observe/image in-town, they are a potential major
pain.
