I, too, joined the gang at Montebello last night, bringing along my
12.5"-f/5 Newt/Dob. Due to an early-morning commitment I had to depart
a bit after 11:15pm ... which is why/when the smoke and clouds started
clearing. (You're welcome, Kevin!)
Despite the transparency issues, and a bit of on and off seeing,
fantastic views of Mars were being produced by Rich Neuschaefer's AP
180EDT. The irregularness (is that a real word?) of the south polar cap
was suspected, and the bright area between Mare Erythaeum and Mare
Acidalium - Chryse, I think - was very evident. (Hope I spelled those
names correctly.)
