If there is a message from a permit saying that they will be there and the
permit is called in (when needed) then just showing up is fine.
It is best to show up before dark. If you arrive more than 1/2 hour after
sunset expect the gate to be locked. Pull over into the area near the gate.
Someone is likely to come over but you can walk in and look around for a
place to park and setup. Drive in SLOW to avoid dust. If everyone is gone
then it is too late.
With the Mars hype it might be expecially good to get there early.
