Sunday afternoon. Bored. Hey, let's clean the Meade SCT!
After inspecting the mirrors and corrector plate, I noticed a big ugly
speck on the 2ndary mirror of my 8" SCT. Of course, I can't get at it
easily or try blowing air into the OTA. While I'm sure it doesn't affect
visual use (for now), it's really annoying. Naturally, the manual says
not to take the corrector plate off as I prolly will void the warranty or
some such thing, even though I'm sure it needs to be done to service the
mirrors. The thought of paying all sorts of $$$ just to have the scope
shipped back for such a mundane and quick job seems a bit much, but
what choice do I have?
What's Meade's turn-around on such repairs/support issues? I'm under
warranty, so I'm debating whether to just fix the problem myself
(recollimating the scope ought not be a big deal) or be a good little boy
and have the manufacturer dop it (and they can update the Autostar
firmware while they are at!).
Any SCT owners out there have any words of wisdom?
