I don't think its the list itself that makes people feel that the star
parties are exclusive. I think it's just the occassional reading of
messages about people freaking out about etiquette, etc that intimidate
newcomers who don't want to feel unwelcome if they accidentally turn on a
white light or something like that.

Sure everyone can read messages about etiquette, etc but occasionally when
people have light related accidents the response from the observers and
imagers at a star party can be quite offensive, especially to newcomers.

I host neighbors on my block all the time when I am out in the driveway -
even while imaging. It is easy to understand why some people would be weary
about attending a larger star party for the first time.

I have to admit to being confused about posts like this. Occassionally we
get something like this from an imager. If it's on the TAC list, it's means
EVERYBODY! If someone, or a group wants a private star party I assume they
plan it somewhere else. The list itself is supposed to be exclusively for
planning star parties and observing, but of course we wander off topic at
times (me included) but the star parties are for everyone, and everyone is
welcome as long as they are friendly, bring beer, and can follow standard
    star party etiquette.

Do some members of the list give the idea that these trips are exclusive
in some way? Do I? I wish someone who feels this way would fill me in.
