hm. One of several ideas behind going to LSA was to set up plural
sites for Messier night, considering how big a group we can now
generate. The idea wasn't to move a big crew to LSA in March. It's
likely to be good and cold at night, colder for instance than Dino or
Coe, and the drivetime for most of us is a factor.
So I was relieved to see the JVN put up a reminder about Coe, also
Kingsley and Jensen claiming for Dino. Meanwhile, it's good,
seriously, that we're no longer collectively contemplating a vast
multitude behind a locked gate at Dinosaur Point.
I really think there's a lingering misperception about this 'going
where the gang is' pattern. Lots of people go out observing in these
promiscuous parts, at different places. TACos can crop up anyplace,
esp on a night like Messier night. You're not likely to miss hanging
with interesting buckaroos and buckarettes at any of the 3 main
Messier sites lined up here. And how's Montebello for horizons?
Of course, we can always have an event like last year's, with 2 guys,
two scopes, binocs on a tripod and a kid (where we had fun and I got
my first clear view of the Merope Nebula).
