The sun is shining right now in Marin County. It's about 1:20 p.m. and
the air is fresh, the thirsty soil is quenched, and the quaking aspens
have dropped many star-shaped leaves on the ground.
So I took my 6 inch f/10 homemade solar telescope, Dob Sun, out for a
look at the sun through my very-first-bought eyepiece, a 25mm Kellner
with a yellow # 15 Orion filter attached. That yellow filter helps to
combat the green sun image which is caused by the piece of #8 welders
glass mounted behind the chrome-plated brass focusing tube on this very
cool telescope.
There are three incredibly gorgeous and huge groupings of sunspots right
now on our nearest star, observed at 55x. I highly recommend that you
step away from the keyboard, walk outside, and, even if you don't have a
solar telescope handy, visualize those sunspots.
It sure made me feel better! Jane
