Well said!
Also, folks -- a few months ago you were all distraught over the fact that
"so few young people are getting into astronomy", right? (Or women, for
that matter?) Well, if you segregate all of your lists into categories
like imaging, observations, and whatever -- I have to say, it makes it a
lot harder for a new person like myself to even hear about imaging,
observation logs or anything else.
By having a wide and varied conversation, it exposes some of the new folks
to a lot of different parts of astronomy. Not that it's your duty to show
me what's out there or anything, but if you're truly interested in getting
people interested, I'd say that having a list with a wide range of reports
and conversations is probably the best way to do it.
If new folks show up and just see you all being cranky and telling people
that X isn't allowed on here so go over there to list Y... well.... it
certainly doesn't encourage me to want to drive out in the middle of
nowhere in the dark with you! ;)
Just a comment from another point of view. :)
