Sadly, that's how I read it too. And Richard Crisp seems well-written
enough to not bear a lot of misinterpretation. But this is email. So who
knows?
And anyway, there's a larger point.
This concept of "group consensus" is nice and everything, but let's be
clear. TAC is not a democracy. It was founded and cultivated by a group of
people, it has elders and newbies, some people participate in it more than
others, and some people are giving up their own personal time and money to
help enrich it and keep it running. And finally, some people are just more
interesting and useful to read than others. In this way, it's actually
rather tribal, like many informal communities, and respect counts. In
modern terms, I see it as a kind of aristocratic meritocracy, and that's
fine by me. It's done a lot of good, and I've learned more about this hobby
from the elders than I have from any book.
Long story short: unless there's a valid reason not to, let us respect the
decision we made a year ago and put this issue to bed.
