Hi Ed,
We usually observe at either the Lone Rock Flat trailhead, or Grey
Pine Flat. These are on Rockpile Rd, past the bridge over the lake.
About a 1/2 mile beyond Lone Rock is a campground, which others have
used for overnight stays.
The directions to Lake Sonoma on the TAC website are good enough to
get you to the park, I don't know of any on line maps, but maps are
available from the visitors center.
Basic directions are:
Take 101 N through Santa Rosa up to Healdsburg/Geyserville area.
Take the Canyon Rd exit, it has a sign to Lake Sonoma. Go left under
the freeway, and follow Canyon Rd, unitl it ends at a T with Dry
Creek Rd. Go right, and follow Dry Creek until it comes to the park
(at it's end). Go through the main visiting/park area, and follow
the road up into the hills. After a few miles there is a junction,
with Skaggs Spring Rd & Rockpile Rd. Go straight though the
intersection onto Rockpile Rd, down the hill and over the bridge.
About a mile or so up the other side is Grey Pine falt, and another
Mile further on is Lone Rock.
cheers,
Robert.
