Blind Astronomers?

    Well... sort of.

I do not intend to make TAC a charity, giving away laser pointers and other
astro-goodies to anyone in "need"... but in our very own backyard we do
have a bona-fide opportunity to build good will and a closer relationship
    with one such needy program.

I first read of this in the SJAA Ephemeris. I am a new SJAA member
(actually I rejoined) and in the first club newsletter I received was a
short piece submitted by Benjamin Mendelsohn, astronomy instructor at West
    Valley College in Saratoga.

Benjamin is trying to rebuild the observational aspects of his astronomy
program. The college has some telescopes, but some time ago the eyepieces
were stolen. Benjamin is asking for donations of 1.25" eypeieces.

I left a message on his voice-mail, in order to determine what his actual
needs are. I also have contacted the SJAA to ask if they will help as a
go-between, so donors can give to the SJAA, which makes it tax deductible,
and the SJAA make the donation. I hope it can work this way, but whether
it does or not it would be great to help a college astronomy program.

Imagine, telescopes and no eyepieces! Blind astronomers! ;-)

At the same time, we may be able to augment the SJAA's eyepiece collection,
    if they need it.

I already have one respondent willing to give a few Plossls he got with his
    Orion telescope.

Anyone else willing to help, please contact me privately.

    Mark
