We have been meeting in Fremont since January, and have slowly been growing.
The last two meetings had four or 5 telescopes outside, and a lot of
elementary and middle school kids (of both genders!). Anyone in the cities
nearby is welcome to come on by, the doors open at 7:00 PM, and we try to
rope everyone in for the meeting between 7:30 and 8:00. Then its back
outside for more moon and star viewing.
One very popular event has been the Library nights - we have gone to the
Newark and the Fremont libraries, and presented a kid-oriented program about
astronomy. Both these events were HUGE! These have been organized by the
Math Science Nucleus staff (led by Joyce Blueford), but just by showing up
with telescopes the Astronomy club members get a big response.
Anyhow, what we are doing is providing a friendly local place for people to
come out and look through telescopes and learn something. There are other
clubs that do this very well (TVS, SJAA, PAS, EBAS and more), but come on by
if you are in our part of the East Bay.
We have a very embryonic web-page at:

(we don't spend much time on infrastructure, just show up at the meeting and
have fun :-)
