This is a slick freeware program that will create diffraction patterns
based on 8 or so specific aberrations like Astig, coma, focus, pinch, etc.
It will show you images of what the rings should look like for obstructed
and non obstructed scopes. You input the diam and the percent obstruction
and it will even take an image and show you the difference in a before and
after.

It is neat and puts Suiters book into perspective concerning your own
scope. He has been working on the user interface with the NexStar
listserv for several weeks and is now released. It works on PCs and is
downloadable from the site.

----------copied from a Nexstar list entry.
Perhaps one way to describe this program would be as a virtual star test.
And
its primary audience may be ATMs who might wish to pre-evaluate their
optical
choices but this looks like a fun little widget even for folks like us who
would rather buy than grind.

If you should download it I'd love to know what you think. So too, I'm
sure,
would the author.
