ALL TAC SUBSCRIBERS PLEASE READ - Reply format and other things

Hello, TACyons - The poll regarding the question of
whether the "reply" button should respond to the whole
TAC list or just the sender is now closed. Including
my own vote, the final score is 12 to 6, with the
current situation ("Reply" => whole TAC list)
prevailing. For now, we will keep the format as is.
One responder requested that the SEDS TAC account be
set so that a reply would go to the whole list EXCEPT
the sender - the responder did not feel a need to
receive back the sent message. I sympathize with this
point of view, but I feel that in general, receiving
back one's own message can be a regular test that
one's own system is still communicating properly with
TAC, so unless I hear a strong response from others, I
think it best to maintain this feature as well.

A couple more points:

(1) Regarding the discussion of late about "fluffy"
TAC messages - to reiterate, it seems worthwhile to
post announcements of new photos going online,
questions and answers about these photos, and similar
posts about equipment and observing. Observing
reports and plans and weather reports are obviously
OK, and announcements of new equipment or techniques
are great (when a person gets a new fancy piece of
equipment, who can keep that in?). I don't even mind
a baby announcement now and then, and a few jokes now
and then can help to keep the mood light.

However, when making a comment, think "value-added" -
if your comment adds information of general interest
to the group, by all means post it. No question is
ever a bad question, so feel free to ask. If,
however, your comment is basically congratulatory or a
response to kudos, or if your post is really of a
personal nature, please think about sending it
privately. It isn't hard, and takes just a few
seconds to make the adjustment to your send-to address
box. This should help to minimize excessive use of
peoples' delete keys.

(2) I've been a getting a whole bunch of error
messages lately from addresses to whom TAC mail is
undeliverable for a number of reasons. I don't really
mind, but if you let us know in advance of any planned
absence or intent to leave the list, or even to let
your e-mail lapse, we can temporarily unsubscribe you
and avoid possible problems.

To unsubscribe from TAC's "discussion" (majordomo)
mailing list, forever or for a week, let me knwo
personally, and then e-mail a message to:

sf-bay-tac-request@No-Spam

...and type "unsubscribe" in the body (not subject
line). This should have the desired effect.

Thanks for reading.
Bruce Jensen
