I believe so too, and in fact as I recall, both Lassen
observing sites have significant mountain/tree horizon
barriers toward the northwest. To get a really good
view of the comet by then, one would need to proceed
much farther north, and then he'd have much longer
daylight to contend with.
For this comet, IMHO we need to use the next week or
so to the best advantage.
