The difficulty in doing this is accomodations/campsites for a group. When
I book Lost Creek, I begin working on it just after January 1 each year.
The sites book quickly. Arriving any time after noon on a Friday during
the school year's summer vacation is a recipe for disaster as campsites
(first come first serve) fill quickly. The group sites may be available,
but it requires a cash outlay at the time of booking in order to secure
them, and with a short window on recouping the funds, it is not something
I want to become involved in.
The other option is staying in a common place, such as the McGovern's
Chalets in Mineral. These cottage/cabins sleep anywhere form 12 to 20
people. They were reasonably prices last time I checked. There was some
talk among the Lassen old-timers of quietly booking those, and letting the
rest of the group rough it.
There are other places to go still... Michelle's, Fiddletown, Albert
Highe's (if he extends the offer), Sierra Buttes, maybe even Lake San
Antonio if the temps are not too extreme.
Any thoughts among you hordes?
