Subject: Let's go DEEP!
Hi Everyone,
Here is an 80 minute exposure of the M84/86 region taken with my
5" refractor from Henry Coe on April 7th. This is different from most
of my other images as I wasn't going for a pretty picture. Instead I
wanted to see how "deep" I could get with my little refractor.
The Sky Level IV has a neat feature called "Image Link" which allows
you to semi-transparently map an image over the chart. This feature
helped me immensely in identifying many of the faint galaxies, although
I labeled them myself in Photoshop.
So, how deep does the image go? 40+ identified galaxies, the faintest is
mag 20. I identified several obvious galaxies that were unmarked and
if you look closely at the image there are many other very small and faint
galaxies.

If anyone is interested I'll post a prettier version without the high
contrast
but I'm still working on getting the color components so it is monochrome
only.
BTW, I am very sad to say I may not make the LSV trip this weekend. My wife
has come down with a nasty flu and I had better stay home to take care
of her if I value my health! :-)
